LAMS V2 Official Launch - December 6th at LAMS Conference

Although test versions of LAMS V2 have been available since October, the official launch of the finalised version of LAMS V2 will be at the welcome drinks for the LAMS Conference, starting at 6pm on December 6th, 2006 at the Sydney Conservatorium. At this time we'll put out revised versions of both the code and the installer programs, as well as update the demonstration site at
http://demo.lamscommunity.org/

If you haven't yet tried LAMS V2, you can easily sign up for a demonstration account at the address above.

And there is a rumour that the LAMS V2 launch will include a viewing (only the second ever in public) of the original LAMS V1 launch video, which includes me in a full length lamb costume ;-)

Sun goes Open Source with Java using GPL

Some time ago I mentioned that Sun Microsystems had indicated they would release the Java programming language (the basis of LAMS and many, many other applications) as open source software. Sun have now officially taken this step, and not only that, but they have chosen the most widely adopted open source license (the GPL - the same license as LAMS). This is great news for LAMS, and for the whole open source software community - our hearty congratulations and thanks to Sun for this important step! For further details, see:
