Learning Designs in Medical Education Colloquium - December 10th

I'm pleased to announce a half-day colloquium/conference on Learning Design in Medical Education - building on the work of an ALTC project on this topic led by MELCOE and the UWS School of Medicine.

This event is the day after the LAMS conference at the same venue, from 9:30am-1pm. Speakers include Rachel Ellaway (virtual presentation), Gregor Kennedy and the team from the ALTC project.

Thanks to the support of the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC), there is no charge for this event. For detail and to register, see
http://www.melcoe.mq.edu.au/altcmedical/Colloquium.html

More details on the ALTC project are also available at this website.

LAMS Community adds Author View & Embed feature; LessonLAMS almost done!

As mentioned in the last newsletter, we've added a new "embed" feature to the LAMS Community which allows you to embed a LAMS sequence from the Public repository area into any webpage, such as a blog or wiki. We've made new improvements to this feature in the past week, and it's now ready for widespread use.

As part of this work, we've created a new "Author View" field on LAMS sequences in the repository - the detailed sequence view now shows a picture of the Authoring environment, and this same picture is used when you embed a sequence into another page.

And LessonLAMS has seen many improvements over the past few weeks, and should be finished and ready for widespread use very soon - I'll send out a note when it's done.

LAMS Community is 5 years old!

It's hard to believe, but the LAMS Community is now 5 years old - it was first launched in September 1995. In the past year I've noticed increasing membership (up 40% on 1 year ago) and previews/downloads (up 75% on 1 year ago).

...and that's even *before* we release LessonLAMS!

Original 2003 LAMS Article cited over 200 times

And while we're on the topic of rising numbers, the original article about LAMS, published in the 2003 ASCILITE conference proceedings, is now up over 200 citations according to Google scholar, see

(includes a link to the article itself)
