Installing and Integrating LAMS V1.0.2

The past week has seen a flurry of activity in the LAMS Community technical forums as more LAMS Administrators install the new version of LAMS, and begin to use the new integrations to plug LAMS into Moodle, Blackboard, Sakai and .LRN.

Through the helpful feedback of early adopters of these integrations, we've identified some ways to improve the process of plugging LAMS into other systems (both in documentation and the code itself).

If you're planning on integrating LAMS with other systems, make sure you download the very latest package for LAMS (from http://www.lamsfoundation.org/downloads/ ) and the latest integration code (choose from the LMSs listed at http://www.lamsfoundation.org/integration/ ). We've updated both recently to improve the process.

There is also a new, more detailed guide on how to set up any of the integrations, including screenshots and advice - see http://lamsfoundation.org/integration/lamsintegration/

Finally, the LAMS Community technical forums have lots of advice on issues with installations. Both LAMS experts at MELCOE and the growing group of LAMS Community technical contributors around the world are assisting anyone who posts a message with their problems. See especially the installation problems forum at http://www.lamscommunity.org/dotlrn/clubs/technicalcommunity/forums/forum-view?forum_id=4929

So, in summary, if you are planning on installing/integrating LAMS:
(1) Download the latest versions of LAMS - http://www.lamsfoundation.org/downloads/ and the integrations - http://www.lamsfoundation.org/integration/
(2) Review the new, more detailed integration advice - http://lamsfoundation.org/integration/lamsintegration/
(3) Post any problems/issues to the LAMS Community technical forums - http://www.lamscommunity.org/dotlrn/clubs/technicalcommunity/forums/forum-view?forum_id=4929

Using LAMS for Critical Thinking

Robyn Philip and colleagues are looking at using LAMS for critical thinking activities. This includes designing new sequences, as well as collating existing content on the web about critical thinking that can be used with LAMS. There are plans to implement this work at Macquarie, and it would be great to expand this to other interested teachers and organisations.
