2008 European LAMS Conference – Call for Papers closing soon

Presentation or paper proposals for the 2008 European LAMS Conference are due by 29th February. The conference is to be held at the University of Cadiz, Spain on 25th-27th June with presentations being accepted in both Spanish and English. LAMS workshops will also be offered in both languages on 25th and 26th June. See http://lams2008.lamsfoundation.org/index.htm for more details.

As part of the LAMS Conference, there will also be a Pedagogical Planner meeting at the same venue on 27th June to discuss the latest developments in this area. Anyone interested in attending this event will find more details at http://lams2008.lamsfoundation.org/meeting.htm

LAMS 2.1 out soon

The LAMS team has been working on the final touches for 2.1 and a release candidate will be out in the next couple of weeks. This will include all the bugs fixes and feedback suggestions we have been getting since the Beta version was released in December 2007. The LAMS 2.1 Release Candidate can be used for trials and courses but it is not recommended for large scale production servers. The idea is that feedback and suggestions gathered on this release will help us to speed up the final LAMS 2.1 Stable Release!

Upload Audio/Video files to LAMS

You can now easily add video and audio to a LAMS activity. The new Add-on gives you an extra button in the Toolbar to upload video or MP3 files to automatically play inside your activity! More information and examples available at: http://wiki.lamsfoundation.org/display/lams/flvPlayer

LAMS documentation in your own language

The new wiki supports documentation for all available languages in LAMS so we are currently recruiting volunteers to help us translate the current English documentation to other languages. If you want to volunteer, let us know! See LAMS Documentation in other languages: http://wiki.lamsfoundation.org/

New Integration with Microsoft SharePoint!

Last week, we started work with Microsoft to create our sixth integration. Although MS SharePoint is not strictly a Learning Management System, it has a concept of "sites" that can act as "portals" to other applications. LAMS will be added as a plugin allowing users to author, run and monitor LAMS lessons directly from SharePoint. More information about this and the other integrations are available here:

Upcoming LAMS Presentations in the US

Leanne and I are heading off to the US in March 2008. I have been invited to speak at the 2008 SITE (Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education) Conference in Las Vegas from Mar 3-7th about student authoring of Learning Designs and Leanne will be delivering 2 papers on using LAMS with Teacher Education students (one of which won Best Paper award!). I will then be going on to the CoSN Conference in Washington DC from Mar 9-11th for a LAMS presentation, then hope to drop in on the OLPC team and the Berkman Centre at Harvard in Boston.
