LAMS V1.1 now ready for translations

A new generation of LAMS starts coming out over the next few months (it's currently called V1.1 - but we're soon to rename it to LAMS V2). One of its great new features is support for languages other than English. We've now completed the (very large!) job of preparing LAMS V1.1 for other languages, and so we're pleased to formally invite translators to start work. You can find out everything you need to know about this at http://www.lamscommunity.org/dotlrn/clubs/technicalcommunity/forums/message-view?message%5fid=180827

We already have Italian, Chinese and Spanish translations completed, and work on Maori, Polish and others are currently progressing. A big thank you to our Italian colleagues who completed the Italian translation in record time (without any direct help from the LAMS team).

The translation task involves about 125 phrases, so it's not a huge job. Also, it doesn't require any special technical skills - so it's a great way to contribute to the development of LAMS if you're not a programmer, but know a non-English language. To get involved, see the link above for details. The new LAMS languages features (as with all of LAMS) are freely available as open source software.

The New Zealand Ministry of Education deserves a special thank you for contributing significantly towards the development work needed to make LAMS run in other languages. While this contribution was provided to support the local needs for a Maori language interface for LAMS, it was provided in such as way that it made it possible to support many languages other than just English or Maori. I've no doubt this will benefit many, many LAMS users around the world, so our thanks for NZ MoE for the assistance. Their contribution also provides a model for other governments to follow in meeting local needs while at the same time assisting the wider LAMS effort.

EDUCAUSE LAMS Community Podcast available

In October last year, I gave a presentation at the US EDUCAUSE conference about LAMS and in particular the creation of the LAMS Community. The Powerpoint presentation from this has been available from the R&D community for some time, but I've just discovered a podcast to accompany it is available via the EDUCAUSE site (with thanks to Apple for making this possible!). It's a big file (20Meg - 42 minutes long), so I wouldn't recommend it over a slow connection. See

New LAMS update available

We've combined all the recent bug fixes for LAMS V1.0.2 into a new LAMS update (including an updated installer) as at the end of February - for details on how to apply this update, see

More LAMS animations

The list of animations of how to use LAMS keeps growing - if you'd rather see LAMS features (including LAMS Community features) illustrated with an annotated animation, instead of a written guide, see
