LAMS Conference - less than a month to go!

The 4th International LAMS & Learning Design Conference will be held on on December 4th at Macquarie University, Sydney, with training workshops the day before. While we have lots of places available for the conference, the workshops have limited capacity and are filling up, so if you plan to join us but haven't registered, please sign up at
http://lams2009sydney.lamsfoundation.org/registration.htm

The program is available at
http://lams2009sydney.lamsfoundation.org/program%20backup1.htm

The conference will have many exciting elements - in addition to university and school presentations from Australia, we have a range of overseas presenters including from Singapore (Paul Gagnon), Japan (Kumiko Aoki), Taiwan (Horng-Ji Lai), Switzerland/Italy (Attilio Pedrazzoli & Luisa dall’Acqua) and a live virtual presentation from Sheila MacNeill in the UK.

There will also be presentations with a focus on medical education, teacher training and open education, as well as updates from the LAMS team on new features.

I'm particularly excited about our two opening keynotes which will focus on students as designers of learning experiences - with students designers as young as 11! And I'm looking forward to announcing the launch of our LAMS Activity Planner and free class hosting service - should be another great conference - don't miss out if you can make it!

LAMS and OLAT LMS

We're pleased to see progress towards another integration of LAMS with a Learning Management System - this time "OLAT", which is a long standing LMS used in Europe with some particularly innovative concepts around course and group structures. Attilio Pedrazzoli and colleagues are currently working on this integration and expect to release it in the near future (you can learn more by speaking to him at the LAMS conference!). Discussion also at this LAMS Community forum thread:

For those who are new to OLAT, there is a handy summary page on Wikipedia at

LAMS on Wikipedia

Speaking of which.... for those who haven't seen it, there is a useful entry about LAMS on Wikipedia, including information about integrations with Learning Management Systems and a set of links to all the LAMS Conferences. See

Publisher interest in LAMS - your thoughts?

I've recently seen significant renewed interest in LAMS among textbook publishers and others who work on educational content and curriculum. When I meet with these groups, they often ask me about how LAMS users see the future relationship of textbooks and other content to LAMS, so if you have thoughts on this topic I'd love to hear from you.
