Educational Developer opportunity for LAMS project in Medicine

MELCOE is coordinating a new 18 month project in the use of LAMS in medical education, and we are investigating options for an Education Developer role to assist this project. Experience in educational development in medical/health sciences areas as well as knowledge of, or experience with LAMS are needed for this position. Please email me if this is of interest (james@melcoe.mq.edu.au).

Turkish becomes 26th LAMS translation

I'm delighted to announce the addition of Turkish to our list of LAMS translations - bringing the total to 26. To learn more about translating LAMS (and to even start a new translation yourself!), see http://www.lamscommunity.org/i18n

Once again, my *HUGE* gratitude to all of our translators for their excellent work. Not only do they contribute freely of their time to help other LAMS users throughout the world, but the LAMS translators are also a fantastic group for testing LAMS and providing feedback on issues and new features. In all my travels and discussions about LAMS, the breadth of translation is one of the things that most often helps people who don't know about LAMS realise its global impact - my great thanks!

OU UK success on Learning Design project

Gráinne Conole and colleagues at the Open University UK have been successful in gaining JISC funding for a major new project on Learning Design which I'm delighted to be part of on behalf of LAMS. An extract from the summary say:

"This bid aims to extend and apply a new learning design methodology, which adopts an evidence-based, multi-faceted approach to support innovative approaches to curriculum design. Strategic investment funds have been provided by the OU for Learning Design over the past year, so we have already developed an extensive set of resources, workshop guidelines, different methods of thinking about design and innovative tools. This bid will enable us to explore the use of these in-depth across a number of institutional contexts....The bid will enable us to trial the methodology in 4 other institutions and across two pan e-learning contexts (the Moodle and LAMS communities)."

New LAMS Tools & Features Coming Soon...

The LAMS development team have been working on 3 new tools recently - a Google Map tool for shared map activities, a Data collection tool for collating and sharing data collected by individual students, and a Spreadsheet tool for student work involving spreadsheets. We're still ironing out the bugs in these, but hope to have them out in the coming months.

And in the coming months, we'll have *very* exciting news about new features using the LAMS Tools Contract and the Activity Planner. It's all hush hush for now, but they are the coolest things I have seen done with LAMS, well, ever! More details in upcoming newsletters ;-)
