A much belated happy new year!

I've been a bit slow off the mark with the LAMS Newsletter in 2007 (too much work!), but here's the first. I've changed the name from "Weekly Newsletter" to "LAMS Newsletter" so that the email header is more meaningful, and because I'm not planning on writing every week this year. Instead, I'll write every few weeks when enough news has built up. So without further ado...

European LAMS Conference 2007 - July 5th, London

As foreshadowed at the end of last year, we're orgainsing a European LAMS conference in 2007. The date is now booked - it's July 5th, 2007. The conference will be held at the University of Greenwich on the outskirts of London, UK. Simon Walker has kindly offered to assist with hosting this event (thanks Simon!). More details in the coming weeks - but please mark this date in your diary now.

There are also plans to have a meeting about pedagogic planners on the following day (July 6th) in London. This will probably be a roundtable discussion for 15-20 people, so if you are interested in this, please let me know by email.

2006 LAMS Conference followup

The 2006 LAMS Conference in Sydney was a great event, and we managed to collect presentations and audio for most sessions - see http://lamsfoundation.org/lams2006/program.htm

Simon Walker wrote up a summary of the event for the ALT newsletter - you'll find it at http://newsletter.alt.ac.uk/e_article000732864.cfm?x=b11,0,w

Designing for Learning eBook

Designing for Learning was Theme 1 of the JISC "Innovating E-learning" online conference held in early 2006. This first conference theme included presentations from a number of people working in the field of Learning Design, including Patrick McAndrew and I on sharing learning designs. Diana Laurillard gave the opening keynote. The online discussion has now been edited into an eBook (with links to the original presentations), and you'll find quite a bit of discussion of LAMS in it. It is available at

The year ahead for LAMS

I'm looking forward to an exciting year for LAMS in 2007. V2 has so many powerful educational and technical features yet to be explored. And there are some key features to come during this year, especially "edit-on-the-fly" and "branching" (including "data in/out"). I also see great potential for rapid authoring/pedagogic planners, and plan to deliver on this area in 2007 (we just ran out of time in 2006). I'm also excited about applying the concepts of LAMS to eResearch collaborative workflows in our work on RAMS. More to come in future newsletters.
